Christopher Boone

Christopher Boone is a 15 year-old boy who has the Aspergerīs Syndrome and he is the main character in the book "The curious incident of the dog in the night-time". His complete life is influenced by the Aspergerīs syndrome.

Christopher lives alone with his father in Swindon, Randolph Street. His father told him that his mother is dead, but she is still alive and had left the family. Later on, Christopher finds out that his father had lied to him and he is very disappointed when he finds out that the only person he ever trusted had lied to him.

Christopher is very intelligent and he is good at school where he can learn to live easier with his syndrome. He wants to do his A-level exams because he is very good at Maths and he can solve very difficult exercises in his head. Christopher does not have many friends but that is due to his syndrome. He doesnīt like strangers and gets nervous if he has to talk to people he does not know. Christopher has a pet rat named "Toby" and he loves it very much and takes care of it very well. So you can say that Toby is his best friend and Christopher takes it everywhere.

Aspergerīs Syndrome and his special character features.

Christopher has a special behaviour and he likes it very much to have everything under control and in right order so nothing can confuse him. Furthermore, he loves statistics and believes in plans. Therefore, whenever he is going to do something, he draws a map in his head to stay calm.

He also has other aspects of a strange behaviour. For example, if Christopher sees five red cars in a row it will be a "super good day" for him and he can relax because he knows everything will be fine and nothing bad can happen to him. But if he sees five yellow cars it is terrible because then it will be a "bad day". That is a reason why Christopher hates the colour yellow.

He hates yellow and brown, he canīt eat, wear or touch something that has or includes these colours. They remind him of poo and other disgusting things. It is Christopher's dream to become an astronaut when he is grown up because in a spaceshuttle he can be on his own far away from strangers and crowded places.

This is also a reason why Christopher goes out at night. He likes is to be alone. He can't stand it being touched by strangers and gets a nervous breakdown when somebody touches him. Therefore, he often holds his Swiss Army knife to defend himself if he thinks to be in danger.

If he is confused Christopher follows his daily timetable which he makes up in his head to stay calm and to relax. Structures and clear patterns help him a lot.
